I know that this day in age is a testament to the psychology of the matter. We see what we want to see. You can doubt or be convinced of anything given the right circumstances. Hell, a lot of technically intelligent people believe in Christianity; I'm related to a bunch of 'em. And just because I've employed a different information gathering route to reach certain conclusions doesn't mean that their truths are any less true. This I am aware of. But in the same respect, just because they used different routes to come to their conclusions doesn't make their beliefs any more real or right than mine. This is a paradox because in order for certain basic human functions of communication to flourish we have to agree on specific, basic principles of what is real and unreal. Right and wrong, up and down, left and right, in and out. And this my friends is where the breakdown is occurring. We could live in a country where both ideals flourish and live harmoniously, but we do not. Religion is taking a front seat once again and science is stuck in the trunk with the groceries. And our driver forgot he went to the store in the first place, leaving a very curious scent to be uncovered only after it's too late.
We are immersed in a point in history when knowledge is replicating at such miraculous speeds that even our most accomplished forward thinkers are dizzied! We have at the tips of our fingers the abilities to do and experience and say and be whatever we can imagine... and here in America, we don't want it.(?)
I believe in the idea of an intelligence that permeates the Universe. In fact 'Universe' is what I've called it. What mid-westerners call God, I call Universe, or 'ALL'. But my idea of what it is is far different than the now spoken majority. I also believe in Science; it's innate principles and base-board discoveries have allowed us to be alive today. Whether it was medicine, astronomy, psychology, physics, quantum physics, dentistry, electricity, any slew of unmentioned 'ologies', or God forbid... 'Evolution', science has extended our lives and added greatly to the betterment of our existence! Of course it's had it's blunders and atrocities; weapons, nuclear waste, pollution, global warming, etc, etc. BUT, none more than Religion. More blood and death and despair have come from fighting over people's IDEA of God than all wars combined! And though I believe war is about as logical as voting a born again Christian as the leader of the free world, I still believe that forward thinking is and was and should always be the centerpiece of humanity. And what's appalling is that right now, we as a country have decided collectively to do the opposite. We are opting to move backwards instead. We'll see where that takes us. Won't this be fun!? There has never been a better time to be from America!
